25ft statue recreating iconic WWII kiss unveiled in NY

London, Aug 14 (ANI): An iconic picture of a couple kissing as World War Two ended has been recreated in the form of a 25ft statue, which has been unveiled in New York.

The US sailor and nurse were photographed in a clinch in New York's Times Square 65 years ago as joyful crowds celebrated victory over Japan, reports the Sun.

Alfred Eisenstaedt's picture taken on August 14 1945 became world famous.

Now this giant memorial sculpture has been erected near the spot where the original kiss took place.

Hundreds of people are set to re-enact the kiss in Times Square today.

The nurse was Edith Shain, who died in June aged 91 whereas the identity of the sailor is unknown. (ANI)
