After Leh, cloudburst hits Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 12: Even as the Himalayan Town of Leh is trying to recoup from the devastating effects of a series of cloudbursts that hit last week, a cloudburst hit Srinagar on Tuesday, Aug 10 night triggering off flash floods.

Khonmoh and Balhama villages were swept by floods after cloudburst occurred near Khonmoh, 13 kms from Srinagar.

The floods caused widespread damage to properties. While 285 structures were damaged at Khonmoh and 33 were damaged at Balhama. Besides this, 3300 kanals of paddy, orchards, and saffron fields have been washed away in the flood.

An estimated 330 families have been affected in the twin villages, state media reports quoting officials.

However, there are no reports of casualties. Relief work has begun.
