UK mission confirms arrest of 18 illegal Indian immigrants
New Delhi, Aug.11 (ANI):The UK Border Agency has arrested eighteen Indian nationals for entering the country illegally and committing acts of an illegal nature.
The arrests were carried out through a series of enforcement operations between July 22 and 29.
The operations were part of a planned nation-wide action by the UK Border Agency to tackle illegal working, sham marriages, bogus colleges and organised immigration crime, said a British High Commission press release in New Delhi.
The illegal workers were arrested at two catering firms in West London, a clothing factory in Leicester and a restaurant in Aberdeen. The individuals were arrested for working illegally and for other immigration offences.
Steps are being taken to remove all eighteen from the UK release further said.
Indian nationals working illegally have been apprehended regularly in UK Border Agency enforcement operations on restaurants, factories and construction sites, and returned to India.
The four businesses have been issued with warnings that they face up to 180,000-pounds in fines for employing the workers, unless they can prove they carried out the correct rght-to-work checks.
