Mkts end in red on sell-off in global markets
Mumbai, Aug 10:Profit booking and weak global cues as the markets world-wide reel under sell off have forces the Indian indices to close the day on a negative note.
The benchmarks ended the day with marginal losses as technology, telecom, metal and select infrastructure companies' shares along with heavyweights like Reliance Industries, SBI, BHEL, ITC and NTPC witnessed selling pressure.
BSE Sensex shut shop at 18,219.99, down 67.51 points and NSE Nifty closed at 5460.70, down 25.45 points.
However, the losses were capped by buying in Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, HUL, L&T, Jaiprakash Associates, HDFC Bank, ONGC, Tata Power and ACC.

Nifty continues on negative note; global mkts slip
At 1:19 pm, the Nifty was around 5450 with negative note.
Global markets slipped ahead of FOMC meet. Shanghai was down 2.9pc and Hang Seng lost 1.5pc. Nikkei, Straits Times, Kospi and Tawain were down 0.2-0.7pc.
Heavy selling was seen in IT, telecom, auto, pharma and metal stocks.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 0.43pc and 0.38pc respectively.
The Sensex was down 90.99 points or 0.50pc at 18196.51, and the Nifty down 36.05 points or 0.66pc at 5450.10. About 1355 shares advanced, 1689 shares declined, and 328 shares were unchanged.
Largecap space, Jaiprakash Associates, GAIL, HUL, Larsen and ONGC were up 0.5-2.7pc. On the losing side, Tata Motors, Unitech, ABB, Infosys and TCS were down 2-3%pc
Heavyweight Reliance was at Rs 993.40 down 0.03pc from its previous close of Rs 993.65. Refinery major HPCL was at Rs 448.85 up 0.63pc from its previous close of Rs 446.05. Tech major Infosys was at Rs 2,823.25 down 1.74pc from its previous close of Rs 2,873.15.
Top gainers on the BSE Midcap: Zydus Wellness, Edelweiss Capital, Berger Paints, Educomp Solutions and IVRCL Infras were up 4-7pc.
Top losers on the BSE Midcap: KGN Industries, Motherson Sumi, Jai Corp, Blue Dart and FDC were down 3-4.6pc.
Top gainers on the BSE Smallcap: Jindal Drilling, Vikas WSP, Lok Housing, Diamond Power and Empire Industries were up 6-8pc.
Top losers on the BSE Smallcap: Harrisons Malayalam, HBL Power, Electrosteel, Astral Poly Tec and REI Six Ten were down 6-9pc.

Sensex strengthens; DLF, SBI, L&T gain
At 10:30 am, the benchmark Sensex was consolidating near to its previous day's closing value after more than 100 points rally on Monday Aug 9.
The markets were dragged by Technology, telecom, FMCG, PSU power and healthcare companies' shares along with ONGC, HDFC, Tata
Metal and cement companies Reliance Industries, SBI, Jaiprakash Associates, L&T, DLF, M&M and Suzlon Energy were helping the markets to get back into positive terrain.
The Sensex was at 18277, down 9.5 points and the Nifty was at 5482, down 3.75 points. The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.4pc and Smallcap up 0.6pc.
Top losers - ITC was at Rs 156.40, down 1.6pc; Tata Motors was at Rs 906.10, down 1.45pc; TCS was at Rs 868.35, down 1.31pc; Infosys was at Rs 2,839.70, down 1.22pc and Wipro was at Rs 432.10, down 1.11pc.
Top gainers - Jaiprakash Associates was at Rs 121.75, up 2.83pc; Tata Steel was at Rs 550.85, up 1.99pc; Suzlon Energy was at Rs 57.40, up 1.23pc; Hindalco was at Rs 168.85, up 1.08pc; GAIL was at Rs 442.50, up 1.04pc; ACC was at Rs 853, up 1.10pc and DLF was at Rs 323.15, up 1.05pc.
The active exchangers were Aban Offshore, Jubilant Foodworks, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Essar Shipping and Reliance Industries .
In the midcap space, Infotech Enterprise, Edelweiss Capital, EIH, IVRCL Infrastructure and IRB Infra were up 4-6% while Essar Shipping, KGN Industries, FDC, Britannia and HT Media declined 2.5-7pc.
In the smallcap space, Empire Inds, Diamond Power, Provogue, Bombay Burmah and Lok Housing gained 7.7-10pc while Harrisons Malay, REI Six Ten, Electrosteel, Astral Poly Tec and TCI Industries fell 5-7pc.

Nifty opens on negative note; SBI, Infy, ITC dip
The benchmark Nifty opened the day with negative note in Asian markets.
At 9:01 am, the Nifty was at 5471, down 15 points and the Sensex was at 18242, down 45 points.
The CNX Midcap index rose 16 point to 8670; about 479 shares advanced while 256 shares declined on NSE.
The frontliners were Reliance Capital, Ambuja Cements, Tata Motors (ahead of results), Ranbaxy Labs, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, Infosys, Wipro, ITC, Sterlite Industries, SBI and Hindalco were on dragged.
GAIL, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Reliance Industries, HDFC, ACC, Jaiprakash Associates and Maruti were gainers.
Midcap & Smallcap space:
Opto Circuits gained 1.7pc. Essar Shipping, Jubilant Foodworks, DCM, IRB Infrastructure and IVRCL Infra went up 2-3pc. Reliance Media World surged 5pc.
Educomp Solutions rose 2.6pc,Raymond was down 2.7pc. Engineers India slipped 4.5pc.
Asian markets were trading lower. Shanghai lost 1.6pc and Hang Seng was down 0.9pc. Straits Times, Kospi and Taiwan were down 0.4-0.6pc. And Nikkei gained 0.5pc.
