Nepali Congress to field Poudel again in fifth round of PM voting

Kathmandu, Aug 8 (ANI): The Nepali Congress Party has decided to go ahead with party Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel's candidacy in the fifth round of election for the post of Prime Minister.

This was decided during a meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee on Saturday.

Nepali Congress spokesperson Arjun Narsingh K.C said the party would intensify consultations with parties in the Constituent Assembly in its efforts to form a majority government.

According to the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007, a candidate must get majority votes - 301 votes out of 601 lawmakers - in Parliament to win the election.

In Friday's fourth run-off election, Poudel got only 122 votes in his favor.

Earlier, he had failed to garner a simple majority in the first, second and third run-off elections held on July 21, July 23 and August 2 respectively. (ANI)
