CBI takes Amit Shah into custody

Gandhinagar, Aug 7 (ANI): The Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) took former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah into its custody following the order of the Gujarat High Court that granted two-day custody of Shah to the CBI in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Earlier today, the CBI accompanied by doctors reached the Sabarmati jail and took Shah into custody following a routine medical check up.

On Wednesday, a special court in Ahmedabad rejected a CBI application seeking custody of Shah in connection with the case. hah will now be in judicial custody till August 8.

Earlier, the CBI had opposed Shah's bail plea and had requested the court to put Shah in its custody for five more days, as he was not cooperating during his judicial interrogation.

The CBI has charged Shah with murder, abduction, extortion and conspiracy. On July 23, it produced a 30,000-page charge sheet-implicating Shah in the case.

Shah was interrogated over three days in jail last week, but the CBI said he did not cooperate and has denied any involvement in the case.

The Supreme Court on January 12 has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI asking it to place before it the report on the progress of the probe within six months by July 31.
