Obama spends 49th b'day with Bo, friends

Washington, Aug 5: With wife Michelle and two daughters away, the US president, Barack Obama celebrated his 49th birthday with his dog named Bo and some close friends.

While first lady Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha are on a visit to Spain, daughter Malia is away at an undisclosed camp.

According to reports, the president spent his birthday with longtime friends in his hometown - Chicago. He was seen leaving Washington on Wednesday, Aug 4 afternoon with family dog, Bo.

White House said that the highlight of his day was when his daughters and his wife conveyed their wishes through the phone.

Mrs Obama and Sasha phoned in their happy birthday wishes, followed by a lunchtime call from Malia, Robert Gibbs told reporters, adding, "Needless to say ... both those calls were the highlights of his day."

Mr Obama also received presents. However, the president was denied what is considered as the best part of receiving gifts - he did not get to unwrap them.
