Maintain economists' credibility: Arun Jaitley
New Delhi, Aug 4: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley told that India's economic policies are impacting the credibility of the economists in the country.
On Wednesday, Aug 4 Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition, also told in the Rajya Sabha that India"s inflation figures were higher than any other country of similar economic stature.
“We want to maintain the credibility of the economists who make the economic policies," said Arun Jaitley.
“The government has repeatedly blamed global trends for the inflation. Inflation in China is close to one percent. In Malaysia it is 1.16 percent. In Thailand it is 3.3 percent. Are these countries not affected by global trends?" asked Jaitley.
He slammed the government for hiking petroleum prices and told that China has only 31 percent duty on petroleum, Malaysia has 25 percent, whereas India has 51 percent.
