Trouble follows celebrations of Friendship Day by students near Pune

Theur (Maharashtra), Aug 2 (ANI): Four hundred students were arrested at Theur near Pune, Maharashtra for serving liquor in a party, without taking prior permission from the police.

Students, including boys and girls from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management gathered in a farmhouse to celebrate the Friendship Day on Sunday.

Students were dancing under the influence of alcohol when police reached the spot.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police of Pune Gramin Area, Ravindra Singh Pardeshi, said prior permissions before organizing a party in a residential area were not taken by the organizers, such as for using loudspeakers, serving liquor, etc.

"They have not taken party permission. All these things like loudspeaker permission and other come under party permission. It comes under Bombay Police Act in which permission is given. The action will be taken as per the Act," said Pardeshi.

"It was Friendship Day so all of us came for party. Actually this is party of friends, so college is not involved," said a student, who did not wanted to be named.

Liquor worth 18,000 was arrested from the party. By Shivaji Saluke (ANI)
