Haryana flood toll reaches 35

Chandigarh, Aug 2: Two more deaths were reported from Haryana's flood-hit Yamunanagar district taking the casualty toll to 35 in the state.

Where as the situation in Chandigarh improved following a considerable fall in water-level at the Hathnikund barrage.

According to the sources, there had been no heavy rainfall in the district since Sunday, Aug 1, though there have been some intermittent showers.

The water-level, which had risen to 90,000 cusecs is down to 30,000 cusecs at the Hathnikund barrage, Yamunanagar deputy commissioner, Ashok Sangwan said.

"There is no cause for panic. The water discharge is down, considerably after we opened both the western and eastern ends of the canal," he said.

The flood water, however, is now gradually receding, he added.

Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirsa and Fatehabad were among the worst-affected districts due to the recent floods.
