Ban homosexuality, surrogate motherhood: Khaps
Rohtak, Aug 2: After the demand for amendment to the Hindu Marriage Act to ban same gotra (sub-caste) marriages, Khap Panchayats have now sought laws against homosexuality and surrogate motherhood.
In a five-hour long meeting or 'Mahapanchayat' of Khaps, held on Sunday, Aug 1 in Meham, resolutions demanding Lok Adalat status to Khap panchayats with judicial powers and ban on homosexuality and surrogate motherhood were passed.
Besides this, the Khap panchayats, which shot up in negative light in the recent past over the ordering of honour killing of couples marrying against caste norms, also favoured stern punishment for crimes related to pornography.
The Khaps have threatened to hold a strike in Haryana on Dec 21 if their demand for amendment to the Hindu Marriage Act to ban same gotra marriages is not met.
