Chandigarh, Aug 1 (ANI): The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) launched a waste management campaign in collaboration with a private company in Punjab's Chandigarh city to make students aware about recycling waste, and the benefits of carton packaging for food products.

The students as well as the teachers were made aware about the need to recycle goods and inculcating the habit of reusing.

"The idea why did we target only students, it's just that students are young, and it's better if we catch them young, so that they are sensitized and in turn they sensitize their parents, and other people who are around them," said Taru Mehta, a representative of TERI.

"So, it's better to have a sort of stakeholders to join with students and be a part of it," he added.tudents from various schools attended the campaign.

"The waste created everyday is increasing at a very high extent. It is very important to recycle this waste so as to save our resources and make the earth a better place to live," said Sargun Kaur, a student.

The students were also made aware of the correct ways of disposing waste, recycling and recycled goods.

The campaign aims to help popularise the concept of recycling and make schools a 'garbage-free zone' and involving students as ambassadors for the programme. By Sunil Sharma (ANI)
