Malaysian Gurdwaras Council denies KLF's operation from its homeland

Kuala Lumpur, July 30 (ANI): The Malaysian Gurdwaras Council has denied allegations made in a 'Bernama report' in India saying the Punjab police believes that a Sikh separatist group has set up its base outside Kuala Lumpur, and urged the Punjab police to provide evidence to their counterparts in Malaysia, as the claim could tarnish the country's goodwill globally.

"Malaysian Sikhs do not believe in the use of violence to achieve one's aim," The Star quoted the Malaysian Gurdwaras Council President Harcharan Singh, as saying.

On Wednesday, the report stated the Punjab police's claim of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) setting up its base outside Kuala Lumpur and that four members were possibly hiding in Malaysia, after they arrested a suspected militant in Punjab on Monday.

The report claimed that the 22-year-old militant was linked to a series of bombings in the state early this year.

The KLF movement was started by Sikh hardliners who staged an armed struggle against the Indian Government in the 1980s and 1990s, seeking a separate Sikh homeland to be called 'Khalistan'. (ANI)
