Female demographic support for Obama cooling down: Poll

Washington, July 30 (ANI): The US President Barack Obama is losing ground with women as a 59 percent approval rating among this section in 2009 dipped 14 points to just 45 percent this year over a seven months period of time, according to Fox News/Opinion Dynamics polls.

Political analyst Larry Sabato said that it is tough news for the Democratic party, which is used to benefiting from the gender gap.

"It exists in almost all elections, ranging from five to eight percentage points," he added.

The Managing Editor for Thinkprogress.org Amanda Terkel is of the opinion that Democrats have simply done a better job working on the issues women care most about. The trust that this section had on Obama administration, especially with regard to the economic crisis, however, might erode as Republicans are now concentrating on such issues to capture the female voters, Fox News states.

"Women want equal pay, to make sure they can afford healthcare, that they won't be penalized because of gender," Terkel said.

"I think for the immediate future, until Republicans offer real alternatives, women would stick with Democrats," she added.

On Thursday, in a bid to woo the middle-aged, working-class women and to possibly revive his popularity among this section of the society, Obama appeared on a popular daytime talk show 'The View'.

According to Nielsen Media Research 79 percent of "The View"'s audience is female, a demographic that's started to cool on the president. (ANI)
