Curfew imposed as injury toll in Kashmir rises to 20

Srinagar, July 30 (ANI): With the injury toll in the Kashmir Valley rising to 20 according to latest television reports, the State Government has imposed a curfew in some sensitive areas.

The Hurriyat Conference, headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a protest march to Maisuma, the city centre.

Vehicular traffic and movement have been completely restricted by security officials during the curfew period halting normal life.

Locals spoke about the difficulties they are facing due to the frequent shutdowns.

"I had a hearing of a case in the High Court today. I don't know if that will happen today or not. We are helpless and things are very difficult for the poor. We are troubled and there is no governance," said Ghulam Ahmad, a local resident.

Security officials have been deployed in large numbers across the city.

The situation in the valley has been tense over the past months due to repeated clashes between the protestors and the security forces. By Fayaz Ahmad (ANI)
