Violence decreases in North East region in 2010
Dimapur, Jul 29: Almost everyone perceives North East is a region with innumerable militants group and is a place where many killings take place. This is not the same now as Centre has send security forces to aid the state authorities and carry out counter insurgency operations.
According to Nagalandpost report, it says the violent incidents in state wise has dipped down in 2010 compared to previous two years.
Union minister of state in the ministry of home affairs Mullappally Ramachandran, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha Wednesday, Jul 28 said “government is aware that the normal life of common people do get affected due to activities of certain militant groups who indulge in various insurgent activities including kidnapping for ransom, extortion, etc."
He said that centre was providing security for vulnerable institutions and sharing intelligence on continuous basis.
Further, he said that centre has provided more financial assistance for strengthening local police forces and intelligence agencies, under the police modernization scheme.
The scheme, he said was being implemented in all states of the region except Mizoram and Sikkim.
“Unified Command has been set up in the states of Assam and Manipur to ensure coordinated operations," he said.
