Telengana assembly by-polls commences
Hyderabad, Jul 27: Andhra Pradesh by-poll election had been started in the Telengana region on Tuesday, Jul 27 for 12 Assembly constituencies.
The election had followed the resignation of sitting MLAs in support of the separate statehood demand.
After 1998, for the first time ballot papers staged a comeback in the by-polls.
With the total number of candidates exceeding the maximum limit of 64 for an EVM, the EC was forced to conduct the polling with ballot papers in five constituencies.
EVMs cannot be used with the existing technology if the total number of nominees is over 64.
Total 23,59,228 electors were there in the 12 assembly segments.
Videography facilities with 2,039 video cameras had been provided for the security purposes in the polling stations.
For the first time 3G mobile phones had been provided to polling officials in Nizamabad and Warangal to obtain quick footage on polling.
The counting of votes will be taken up on Jul 30.
