Price rise issue rocks Parliament

New Delhi, Jul 27: Soon after the proceedings began in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Jul 27, members of the NDA stood up in protest against price rise and they shouted slogans against the government.

Members of the SP moved towards the speaker's podium and also started shouting slogans.

Later they were joined by Telugu Desam Party MPs, who also raised the issue of the water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Meira Kumar allowed Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj to speak. The BJP leader said notices had been given for an adjournment motion on the burning issue of price rise by the NDA and members of other parties.

She said the issue had been raised not just by the opposition but also by the parties supporting the Congress-led UPA.

The NDA, the Left, SP and RJD continued their protest, Meira Kumar adjourned the house till 12 noon but as the situation did not improve after the house reconvened, the Speaker had to once again adjourn the house.

There were similar scenes in the Rajya Sabha that was adjourned after protests by the opposition parties along with the SP and the RJD.
