'Dangerous organization' LeT becoming global threat, warns Admiral Mullen
Islamabad, July 25(ANI): US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, Admiral Mike Mullen, has described the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) as a very dangerous organization, which has become a significant regional as well as a global threat.
Addressing the media at the US embassy in Islamabad, Mullen stressed that there was a strong need to take stern action against the organization.
"This organization is spreading fast to the West, getting more active in the region and engaging more with other terrorist groups. It heightens our concern as it has now turned into a regional and international organization," The News quoted Admiral Mullen, as saying.
"We will have to place focus on its eradication, this is an emerging threat," he added.
The LeT was founded by Hafiz Saeed and Zafar Iqbal in Afghanistan in 1990, with its headquarters based in Muridke, near Lahore. The group allegedly operates several training camps in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The organization has been accused of involvement in many terrorist attacks in India, including the December 23, 2000, attack in Red Fort, New Delhi, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
It is banned as a terrorist organization by India, Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Russia and Australia.
Earlier, U.S. intelligence officials had claimed that Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) provided intelligence help to the organization. (ANI)
