SP leader shot dead, political rivalry suspected

Lucknow, Jul 23: Just days after what seemed like an assassination bid on a BSP leader, Samajwadi Party leader, Anil Yadav, was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district on Thursday, Jul 22.

34-year-old Yadav was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was returning home after meeting some of his friends on the outskirts of the district, the police said on Friday, Jul 23.

"Though we are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime, it appears the incident could be the fallout of political rivalry," police inspector Ranjeet Rai informed media personnel.

He informed that two-three motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead Yadav, who was also the manager of the Sudershan Inter College in Ghazipur, in the Nandganj area.

"Teams have been constituted to nab the assailants at the earliest," he informed adding that a case has already being registered against four suspects based on the complaints made by Yadav's family.

This comes a week after Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister, Nand Gopal Gupta, was targeted in a bomb attack in Allahabad on Jul 12.
