India, Pakistan agree to install telemetry system on Indus to record water flow

Lahore, July 23 (ANI): Pakistan Indus Water Commissioner Syed Jamaat Ali Shah has said that both India and Pakistan have agreed to install a telemetry system on the Indus River to record and transfer real-time data of water flow, which would benefit both the neighbouring nations in the long run and reduce conflict between them.

The decision was taken on the first day of the two-day meeting of the Indus Water Commissioners of both India and Pakistan here, The Dawn reports.

Talking to media persons at a joint briefing with his Pakistani counterpart Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, India's Indus Water Commissioner Aranga Nathan said that both sides have eached an agreement over the issue.

According to sources privy to the meeting, both India and Pakistan have also agreed to jointly inspect the flood embankment of River Ravi.akistan has been asking for permission to inspect the flood embankments built by India on the river in 2001. (ANI)
