Indian railways to provide fire retardant linen

Lucknow, Jul 22: Indian railways had decided another prevention method for safety to deal with accidental fire.

The usual cotton linen, distributed among the passengers, could be lesser of cotton and "some other material" mixed to make the linen fire retardant.

"While it might take a little time to get final shape, we have made the proposal to introduce the new linen on board Lucknow Mail," said senior railway officials.

According to Times of India, the fire retardant linen could be the first of its kind in Indian railways.

As the daily described, if a running train catch fires, officials have not much to do to control it.

Railways so far had only been 'preventive' by using fire retardant material in flooring, berth covers and ceiling of the coach.

So, to take extra preventions, railway officials had taken some steps to control fire accidents.

The automatic fire extinguisher will be installed on board KV Express in Aug 2010.
