China man gets 1 year prison for online gambling

Beijing, Jul 22: A court in Beijing passed the sentence of one year in prison and 10,000 yuan fine on a man for online gambling.

The 20 year old Zhao Yan was arrested in Mar 2010 for helping others to bet on football World Cup.

"This is the first verdict on online soccer gambling pronounced in Beijing," said Di Qicheng, Judge in Dongcheng District People's Court.

Zhao Yan had illegally collected more than 7 million yuan in bets while working for an overseas gambling website.
