New traffic bike squad to ease Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, Jul 21: Delhi Police flagged off 200 new traffic police motorbikes to ease the traffic problems during the Commonwealth Games 2010.

YS Dadwal, Delhi Police Commissioner, flagged off the new squad on Tuesday, Jul 20. The new traffic control squad was trained and skilled bikers.

The new bike squad will direct traffic when traffic lights stop working or during the extreme traffic jam.

"The process of acquiring new traffic police bikes started in 2008 and since then 200 motorcycles have been added to the fleet every year. The bikes have been very effective in making traffic police's presence felt on city roads. Road accidents have got reduced as people have now become conscious of traffic rules," said YS Dadwal, Delhi Police Commissioner.

"The bikes help traffic police personnel to remain mobile and intercept defaulters immediately,'' he added.
