Google signs wind power deal
Sanfrancisco, Jul 21: Google Inc had signed the deal with NextEra Energy Inc for buying the wind power for the next 20 year to power data centers.
Google Energy LLC will start buying wind power from Jul 30 from at a predetermined rate.
NextEra Energy Resources generate enough energy to power more than 55,000 homes.
"Incorporating such a large amount of wind power into our portfolio is tricky, but this power is enough to supply several data centers," said Google's president Urs Hoelzle.
Google had campaigned the climate change issues as a philanthropic effort through its website.
In Dec 2009, Google Energy unit was formed, which allows the company to buy large volumes of renewable energy from the wholesale power market.
