Bihar Assembly din turns ugly; 16 MLAs suspended

Patna, Jul 21: The ruckus in the Bihar legislative assembly took a ugly turn on Wednesday, Jul 21 when slippers started flying and 16 Opposition MLAs were suspended.

Speaker Udai Narain Choudhry suspended 16 MLAs including State RJD President Abdul Bari Siddiqui and RJD deputy leader in the Assembly Shakeel Ahmed Khan for the session for their unruly behaviour.

The MLAs disobeyed the directive of the Speaker to let the House function leading to their suspension. The suspended MLAs included 10 RJD MLAs, two from the LJP, one each from the CPI(M) and CPI(ML) and two independents.

While most of the MLAs protesting in the well of the House had to be marshalled out of the house, the watch and ward staff had to lift RJD MLA Bablu Dev. While his colleagues rushed to his rescue, a slipper was thrown at the podium of the Speaker.

The MLAs have been sitting on a dharna since Tuesday, Jul 20 demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over alleged financial irregularities in welfare and development schemes in the State.
