Americans raise banner of protest over mosques

New York, Jul 21: New York enjoys a reputation as one of the most tolerant places in America, but now New Yorkers are opposed to a proposal to build a mosque.

Several proposed Islamic centres, including Ground Zero, which had started nationwide debate, now it has raised questions about the state of religious tolerance in post 9/11 attack.

Two more proposal of mosque building in California and in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, has led to heated outbursts in the nation and threats are given to the builder who are working on the mosque project.

Recently, former US Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin tweeted, "Twin Towers site is too raw. Peace seeking Muslim, please understand, Ground Zero mosque is unnecessary provocation, please reject it in interest of healing."

However, Muslim leaders say the protests are built on bigotry and ignorance.
