Kathakali actor Kottakkal Sivaraman passes away
Palakkad, Jul 20: Kottakkal Sivaraman, the veteran Kathakali artist, passed away due to old age ailment at his residence in Karalmanna on Monday, Jul 19.
Sivaraman who was excelled in depicting heroines of Indian mythology was synonymous with the characters including Damayanti, Kunti and Draupadi.
Since his adolescence, he teamed up his female characters with veteran actors in Kathakali including Krishnan Nair, Ramankutty Nair and Kalamandalam Gopi. He was specialized in doing romantic roles but later differentiated in doing the roles that of Kunti in 'Karna Sapatham', mostly with Kalamandalam Gopi.
He has been honored with several awards including 'Stree Ratna Puraskaram' for his immortal characters in Kathakali theater.
Sivaraman was 76 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
