Militant arrested in Meghalaya
Shillong, July 20 (ANI): Troops of the first battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested a Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant from the East Khasi Hills area here on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF nabbed Joptom Pohtom Hayoung while he was trying to cross the border.
Hayoung was carrying a reward of Rs. 100,000 on his head, and was believed to be one of the right hand men of HNLC chief Bobby Marwain.
He is involved in several murder cases, besides large scale extortions and kidnappings.
"Some of the cadres, they have been coming to villages and doing extortion. Whatever information we get through our intelligence input, we work on them. It is out of that good effort that we have been successful in apprehending him on the border," said R. C. Saxena, Inspector General of BSF. (ANI)
