Rs 5L, job for kin of those killed in train mishap

Kolkata, Jul 19: Railway Ministry has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and employment to one member of each family of those killed in the West Bengal train accident involving Sealdah-bound Uttarbanga Express and Vananchal Express.

Those seriously injured in the mishap would receive Rs 1 lakh and those with minor injuries will get Rs 25,000, Mamata Banerjee informed before leaving to the accident site.

Expressing "some doubt" over the cause of the accident, the Union Railway Minister ordered an inquiry into the accident.

"We have some doubt in our mind. Whatever happened is not casual thing. We will take all strong step against those who are behind this," she told reporters.

The two passenger trains collided at Sainthia station in Birbhum district at around 2 pm on Monday, Jul 19 killing at least 49 people and injuring over 150.
