Accidents are accidents, can't be foretold: Pranab
New Delhi, Jul 19: Pranab Mukherjee defended railway minister Mamata Banerjee by rejecting the comments like absence from her Ministry was the reason for recurrence of train accidents.
Pranab Mukherjee rejected the idea that this is the time to have a full-time rail minister.
More than 60 people are feared dead and 90 injured in the collision between Uttarbanga Express and Vananchal Express at Sainthia station in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Jul 19.
This was the second railway accident in less than two months.
Earlier more than 148 were killed when Gyaneshwari express had been derailed near Jhargram on May 28.
The Railway minister, however, alleged the Jhargram accidents as a 'political conspiracy'.
"Accidents are accidents. Nobody can predict them and that's why it is an accident," added Mukherjee.
