Cops need 25,000 passes for Commonwealth Games
New Delhi, Jul 18: Most of the Commonwealth Games viewers will be Delhi Police!
Delhi Police has asked 25,000 passes to provide security at Commonwealth Games venues.
Delhi Police asked the passes from the Organizing Committee (OC) and when OC asked to reduce the demand, cops refused to scale down.
OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi and Sports minister MS Gill refused the police demand saying it would limit entry for the common man. Gill told that there should be a fine balance between security and public attendance.
OC wrote to home secretary GK Pillai to assess security needs and check if the police demands were genuine.
On Saturday, Jul 17 Pillai reviewed security arrangements for Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium's VIP enclosure, frisking points and entry and exits.
