Pillai reviews security of JLN stadium in New Delhi
New Delhi, July 17(ANI): Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai on Saturday visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi for an on spot assessment of security measures.
The stadium is the venue for both opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games.
During his visit, Pillai interacted with the members of the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee and Delhi police.
The security forces along with sniffer dogs examined the stadium and the nearby areas.
Metal detectors, x-ray scanner, infrared doors for baggage, and closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) have been installed in the stadium.
The Commonwealth Games, to be held from October 3 to 14, will be India's biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.
The organizing committee is expecting a huge rush of tourists in New Delhi for the Games, apart from about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states. (ANI)
