Free DVD to teachers for better IT education

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 14: Kerala government decided to distribute a resource DVD to high school teachers as a part of 'IT@school Project'.

IT@school Project is a government initiative to impart Information Technology (IT) education in schools. The resource DVD which comprises of various tools, software and chapters which were in line with the new ICT syllabus will help the teachers to equip themselves with the modern curriculum.

Resource DVDs are distributed to ensure a complete Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled educational system.

"The Resource DVDs were considered to be first of its kind in the country. The DVDs were prepard entirely on Free Software, could be used in any computer or laptop, would be distributed to 60,000 high school teachers in the state," said K Anvar Sadath, IT@School Project Executive Director.

"Through the release of the Resource DVD to all high school teachers and empowering them with specific ICT skills, it was aimed to implement a complete ICT enabled learning process at all classrooms in the state," he added.

The DVD will have an introduction to office packages, painting software, speecial features on presentation software, PDF versions of various textbooks, latest versions of free application softwares, tools for science, mathematics and social science.
