JMM activist killed in West Bengal
Kolkata, Jul 13: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha activist was killed in Purulia district of West Bengal on Tuesday, Jul 13.
Srikanta Hansda was shot dead by unknown assailants in a Maoist dominated area. His body was found in a jungle near Maa Kapali village in Bandwan area.
"During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Hansda was returning home Monday, Jul 12 night when he was stopped by some unknown people, forcibly taken into the jungle and later shot dead. The mode of operation indicates that he was murdered by the Maoists but no Maoists posters were found from the spot," said a senior police officer.
But JMM leaders told that he was shot dead by Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporters.
"Hansda was several times threatened with dire consequences for not joining the CPI-M by quitting JMM," said Ajit Prasad Mahato, JMM state unit chief.
"We are looking into every possibility, whether Hansda was murdered by the Maoists or miscreants backed by some other party," said Rajesh Yadav, Purulia Superintendent of Police.
