Panic at Arabic University in Surat

Surat, Jul 12: Desire to get a glimpse of Sayeedna Mohamad Burhannydin, a religious leader in a convocation ceremony of the Arabic University, resulted in panic, killing a woman on Sunday, Jul 11.

This incident took place at Arabic University Al Jametul when some students tried to push their way to catch a glimpse of Dr Sayyadana Nohammad Burhanudin at the university in Zanpa Bazar area, resulting in a stampede.

According to the sources the venue lacked capacity to accommodate the crowd.

According to the police 11 were admitted with fractures, 3 others were relieved after administering first aid. In this incident a 65-year-old woman, Rabba Shiakan trampled to death.

The injured were rushed to a local hospital.

A case has been registered and further investigations were on, police added.
