Motihari (Bihar), July 12 (ANI): Monsoon rains have caused a breach of embankments of a river in Bihar's Motihari District.

Chaos prevailed in Turkaulia region of the district as the embankment of the Gandak River was damaged, after which water entered at several places in the region leading to losses worth millions of rupees.

Locals complained of official apathy.

"None of the officials have come here so far. Houses of almost five dozen people have been damaged so far. Crops, clothes, utensils, everything has been damaged," said Dineshvar Prasad, a local.

Locals have started moving to a higher ground.

"The root canal has been damaged to up to five feet and that has led to the increase in the water flow. The water has been logged at several places," said Kaulia, an administrative official.

The villagers have taken to using bamboo sticks to build passages over flowing water at several places. (ANI)
