UNSC condemns S. Korean Navy Ship sinking, avoids blaming N. Korea directly
Beijing, July 10 (ANI): The United Nations Security Council has passed a "presidential statement" condemning the sinking of the South Korean naval ship 'The Cheonan', killing 46 seamen, but avoided blaming North Korea directly for the incident.
According to the China Daily, UNSC expressed its deep concern over the findings of the international report, but noted that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has "stated that it had nothing to do with the incident."
Welcoming the restraint showed by the Republic of Korea (ROK), UNSC stressed on the importance of maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula as well as in all of North-East Asia.
The statement also stated that a draft has been approved by the five permanent council members, including China. (ANI)
