Lashkar strikes in North Kashmir, 2 policemen hurt

Srinagar, Jul 9: Amid the ongoing turmoil in the valley, militants launched a series of attacks on security forces in Sopore.

A total of three attacks were launched by suspected Lashar-e-Toiba militants in North Kashmir in which two policemen were injured.

The first attack came at 12:30 am on Friday, Jul 9 in the outskirts of Sopore city. Militants hurled three grenades at a police convoy and followed it up with firing.

The security personnel retaliated. No one was injured in the incident.

The second strike came an hour later at 1: 30 am at main crossing of the city, which is located 54 kms from Srinagar. In this attack, a jawan of Indian Reserve police injured.

Terrorists later fired on police vehicles on Sopore-Baramulla road leaving one of the drivers injured in the third strike that took place at around 2: 30 am.

The valley has been on the boil over the past two weeks due to protests and agitations against the death of civilians in CRPF firing. Curfew has been clamped on the majority of the areas and the Army has been called to maintain law and order.
