Violence in the Valley: Hurriyat activist arrested
Srinagar, Jul 9: One of the Hurriyat Conference activists, accused of trying to instigate more violence in the valley, was arrested on Friday, Jul 9.
Police arrested Shabir Ahmed Wani, district President of Hurriyat conference, from Narbal-Magam road after intercepting his conversation with another hardline Hurriyat activist, Ghulam Ahmed Dar.
The activists of the group led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani were allegedly conspiring to spark off further violence in Kashmir Valley and get at least 10 to 15 people killed in a procession.
In the conversation intercepted by the police, the two were allegedly discussing ways to brew trouble during a procession set to be taken out in Budgam district of central Kashmir.
Official sources informed that Wani has been booked under several provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code and is likely to be charged under the stringent Public Safety Act.
The police is still on the look out for Dar. The activist has gone missing after reports on the conversation came out.
