Ganga cleaning plan between the Centre and IITs

New Delhi, Jul 7 : Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh and Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal signed for an Memorandum of Understanding on Ganga river basin management plan with Seven IITS, in New Delhi.

This gentlemen's agreement took place for management plan for the clean and continuous flow of Ganga, with the consortium of seven leading IITs like Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee, Guwahati, Delhi, Kanpur and Mumbai on Tuesday, Jul 6.

The comprehensive measures, will be completed within 12 to 18 months with the estimation cost of Rs 15 crore.

The management plan will outline the strategy and the actions needed for the maintenance and restoration of the Ganga basin, constraints of population, urbanization, industrialization, agriculture activities, and more focus is to ensure quality and quantity flow in the river.

This plan will also take into account the experience of earlier attempts of Ganga Action Plans, and also discuss with local, state and other agencies who have worked for maintenance of the river Ganga.
