Army conducts flag march in curfew-bound Srinagar

Srinagar, Jul 7: Deployed to help the local authorities in maintaining law and order in the violence-torn state, the Indian Army staged a flag on the Srinagar Airport Road.

Protests and clashes between security forces and civilians over the past few days has left four people dead in Srinagar, where an indefinite curfew has been imposed.

Curfew has been enforced in Anantnag, Pampore, Pulwama and Kulgam in South Kashmir and Kupwara and Bandipore in North Kashmir.

Army also staged a flag march in Sopore and Baramulla, where restrictions were in force.

The state government sought the assistance of the army to enforce the curfew due to the non-availability of adequate number of police personnel. Police personnel have been deployed for Amarnath Yatra and counter-insurgency operations.

Army was called out on the streets of Srinagar late on Tuesday, Jul 6 night.
