Charges framed for Goa Russian rape case
Panaji, jul 6: The sessions court in Goa charged the case against the local politician John Fernandes, who is accused of raping a Russian girl in Dec, 2009.
The charges were framed by Sessions Court Judge BP Deshpande, under section 376 and 201 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape and destruction of evidence.
Fernandes allegedly raped a Russian girl in his car after adding alcohol to her drinks on Dec 1,2009. He met the girl at a shack in Colva beach. The politician was on the run for a month, but surrendered on Jan 6, 2010,
The case was initially registered at Colva police station and was handed over later to the Crime Branch. Crime Branch took the fresh statement from the victim and registered a rape case against Fernandes. The victim was working in a five star resort.
Police said that John destroyed the crucial evidence in this case by cleaning the car and providing wrong clothes to the Crime Branch. The case evoked much concern among the public and Russian Consulate had expressed strong reservations about safety of the country's citizens in Goa.
