Army not needed to tackle Naxals: G K Pillai
Chhattisgarh, July 6: Union Home Secretary G K Pillai has confirmed on Tuesday, Jul 6, that the government will not deploy the Army in Naxal hit areas.
On a visit to the Naxal affected districts in Chhattisgarh, G K Pillai said more security personnel could be deployed in the affected areas in accordance with the requirement.
"Centre will provide more forces of Para military to the state which is facing Naxal problem. Both Centre and the State government are taking steps to deal with Naxal problem, but it could take three to seven years to solve it," Pillai said.
According to the media sources the Prime Minister and Home Minister P Chidambaram will meet the chief ministers of seven Maoist affected states in Delhi on the Jul 14.
Earlier Home Minister P Chidambaram supported the deployment of troops in Maoist areas and where as Defence Minister A K Antony was against to the idea of Chidambaram.
