South West monsoon hits Punjab and Haryana

Punjab, Jul 5: With the arrival of south west monsoon on Monday, Jul 5, the hot weather in the states like Punjab and Haryana, turned out to be cool.

In Haryana, Ambala received 174.1 mm rain followed by Panchkula at 122mm, Kurukshetra 92 mm and Karnal 89.4 mm.

In Punjab, Mohali received 110 mm of rains followed by Ludhiana 66.6 mm , Ropar 66 mm, Patiala 46.8 mm and Jalandhar 30 mm.

According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is approaching in many regions of Punjab, Haryana, Union Territory Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh and these regions will receive widespread rains in coming 2-3 days.

"The continuous rainfall may affect normal life and may also result in disruption of power supply. Till now the city has received 117.8 mm rainfall since Sunday, Jul 5," Director of the Meteorological Department Surender Paul said.

However the monsoon is likely to hit the national capital Delhi in coming days.
