High Court notice to Army Chief on grant of commission to women
New Delhi, July 5 (ANI): The Delhi High Court issued a contempt notice to Army Chief General V K Singh on Monday after the force failed to comply with the court's previous order directing grant of permanent commission to serving women officers selected on short service commission basis.
Justice GS Gilani also sought a reply from the Defence Secretary by August 18 on a petition filed by Lieutenant Colonel Sangita Saradana and other women officers of the Indian Army.
The Delhi High Court had in March 2010 directed the Government to grant permanent commission to 50 women officers, stating that sensitivity was required in the armed forces.
Of those, who filed their petition, 22 women officers from the Air Force have been granted a choice on permanent commission on a one-time basis. (ANI)
