Pranab Mukherjee refuses any rollback of fuel price

New Delhi, July 4 (ANI): Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday ruled out rollback of fuel prices ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) shutdown on Monday.

"No rollback of fuel price hike," said Mukherjee on the sidelines of a seminar here.

Referring to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) hiking the repo rates, Mukherjee said: "It was an appropriate and welcome measure."

BJP President Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader Rajnath Singh will lead the protest in New Delhi to make Monday's nationwide strike against fuel price hike a success.

Earlier on June 25, a ministerial panel headed by Mukherjee, had lifted the pricing controls on petroleum following which the price of petrol went up by Rs 3.50 a litre.

The Government hiked the prices of diesel by Rs.2 a litre, kerosene by Rs.3 a litre and cooking gas by Rs.35 per cylinder. (ANI)
