Bill on child sexual abuse likely in Parliament's next session: Moily

Chennai, July 4 (ANI): Union Law and Justice Minister M.Veerapa Moily on Sunday said a Bill to introduce a new law to deal with sexual offences against children is likely to come up in the next session of Parliament.

Addressing media on the sidelines of a consultation on law reform and legislation for sexual offences against children, Moily said the Law Ministry had come up with the second working draft of The Protection of Children From Sexual Assault Bill, 2010.

He said the centre would enact a separate law to deal with sexual offences against children.

He also stressed the imperative to widen dialogue for reformulating the existing laws and ensuring that the wisdom of the nation as such goes into the process to make a new law for this section succeed in Parliament and in courts.

Replying to a question on the Tamil Nadu government's demand for making Tamil as an official language of the Madras High Court, he said Centre was ready to support Tamil Nadu's demand to make Tamil as the official Court language in the State.

"However, a final decision in this regard has to be taken by the judiciary," he said.

"If the Judiciary accepts using Tamil as the Official language of the Madras High Court the Centre was ready to support it," he added. (ANI)
