Nitish Kumar's chopper takes off with open doors

Patna, Jul 3: In what could have been a repeat of the 2009 chopper crash that killed the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajashekara Reddy, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had a close shave when his chartered helicopter took off with its door open.

Besides the CM, two other senior JD(U) leaders state food minister Narendra Singh and JD(U) national spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari were also in the chopper when it took off from Gidhaur in Jamui district with its door open on Saturday, Jul 3.

However, a massive mishap was averted when the two pilots of the helicopter, Captain Raman and Captain Ravi, exercised presence of mind and immediately touched down after noticing the open doors.

Superintendent of police (Jamui), Vinod Kumar informed that the chopper was only allowed to take off again after pilots and ground crew thoroughly checked the four-seater.

An inquiry has been launched into the incident.
