World's largest telescope by Russia
Moscow, Jul 2: Russian space agency Roscosmos is constructing the world's largest telescope which is going to be complected in 2011.
The cost of the telescope will be worth of $ 271 million and is designed by researchers and engineers from the University of Wisconsin and sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
"The telescope will be equipped with some 5000 Digital Optical Modules buried under the ice at depths of 1.4 to 2.5 km. The modules will transmit experimental data for 25 years," Russian space agency Roscosmos said.
This telescope will be used for the observation of various stars, gamma ray bursts, and cataclysmic phenomena involving black holes and neutron stars.
